Mother's Day Prayer

On this day when we celebrate mothers, we bring our prayers for all mothers everywhere ... for birth mothers, adoptive mothers, and spiritual mothers ... and all those whose love is like that of a mother.

For young mothers and old mothers .. first time mothers and experienced mothers ... teenage mothers and third world mothers. For mothers in leadership positions, in public life, in business, and in academic institutions, in religion and in the church. And for those behind the scene at home with the family, in service jobs, and voluntary organizations.

For mothers in uniform serving in the armed force. For impoverished mothers and abandoned mothers, mothers of suicides and mothers of genocide. Mothers of anorexics, mothers of the murdered and mothers of victims of violent abuse.

For mothers of crib death and mothers of the dying, for mothers of the missing and mothers of children slaughtered in war and children slain in the streets.

For mothers of children in prison and mothers of children who are mentally ill. For mothers of kidnapped children and mothers of children who ran away from home. For mothers whose children will never come home and mothers whose home has never had children.

Lord, today we pray your blessing on all who share your motherly love in this world.
